December 2000: Rural Galicia




Wide, fertile fields, black soil, small villages with a goose pond and stork nests, horse - drawn carriages -
that's our idea of galician villages. Coined by many novels, short stories, tales, from austrian times, Josef Roth for instance..

today, it still resembles our ideas and memories: yes, there are cars or bycicles, but farming is done (again) in the traditional way, the kolchoses are mostly closes, peasants work on their own ground.

I had many Déja-Vus on the road from Lviv to the Carpathian mountains...
